The temporomandibular joint is the joint that connects your lower jaw to the temporal bone of your skull and is often referred to as the TMJ. Located on either side of the head, directly below the ears, the TMJ allows your jaw to function properly and comfortably. This includes helping you eat, speak, chew, laugh, and yawn with ease. However, when it becomes damaged or stressed, the TMJ can lead to a number of complications. These include:

A stuck or locked jaw

The inability to open your jaw wide

Pain, tenderness, and swelling in the jaw and face

Earaches or ringing in the ears

Loose teeth

Very worn teeth

Difficulty and pain when chewing or moving your jaw

TMJ is often caused by a condition known as bruxism, or teeth grinding and clenching. Dr. David Bogan’s premier treatment for bruxism and the TMJ in Mobile, Alabama, is custom-made night guards. Night guards are designed to fit snugly over your teeth and prevent them from grinding against each other as you sleep. Our night guards are comfortable to wear and easy to sleep in. For more information about the TMJ and how we can ensure your jaw remains healthy, contact our dentist and team at Dental Solutions today. We hope to hear from you soon.
